From there you enter the Alcazaba, where the route first passes through its defensive system of access points and the Plaza de Armas, before reaching the palace area. Higher up you'll find spaces such as the Patio de los Surtidores (Courtyard of the Fountains) in the Taifa Palace, with its triple horseshoe arcade and atauriques decoration, and then the Nasrid sector, arranged around the Patio de los Naranjos (Courtyard of the Orange Trees) and the Patio de la Alberca or del Arrayán (Courtyard of the Pool/Myrtles).
Leaving the Alcazaba, the route continues through the historic centre to Malaga Cathedral. Admission to the Cathedral of the Incarnation lets you explore a Latin-cross interior with three aisles of equal height, an ambulatory and a strong sense of verticality beneath the vaults. Inside, highlights include the choir and the Capilla Mayor, with mural painting by Cesare Arbasia.
