The tour begins at the Roman Theatre, where you'll see the tiered seating and the proscenium area. This first stretch covers the theatre's origins, its main parts, its uses in Roman times and the length of time it remained buried before being uncovered.
The route then enters the Alcazaba through its starting gate. This is where the section on the capture of Malaga in 1487 begins, along with the city's situation during the years of conflict between Christians and Muslims. From this point, the climb up through the fortress begins.
The route continues along the zigzagging ascent, past the Temboury Tower, the Gate of the Columns, the Barrio Ascent, the Arch of Christ and the Barbican Tower. Along this stretch you'll see the site's defences, the reuse of Roman material in its construction, and traces of the neighbourhood that occupied the Alcazaba during the 19th and 20th centuries.
The final part takes place in the palace area, taking in the silo, the site of the water source, the Patio de los Naranjos (Courtyard of the Orange Trees) and the Patio de la Alberca (Courtyard of the Pool). This is the stretch where you'll see how food was stored, where water came from and how life was organised inside the fortress. The tour ends at the highest point of the Alcazaba, in the palace area.
